Coaches who love their players don’t shame them in front of their teammates; they don’t condemn publicly and tear down, they confront privately and build up. They care about what’s going on in the classroom and at home. They work to understand the pressures their players are feeling off the field as well. They serve their players and step in to help in whatever way they can, because they are tuned into the needs and hurts of their players. They’re intentional about modeling and building specific character qualities into the hearts of their players – integrity, perseverance, consistency, teamwork, overcoming adversity and forgiveness.
If coaches would coach their players like Jesus loved His disciples, sports would be transformed instantly! Imagine if every coach followed The Love Win and could say – “My goal is to love my players!”

“Coaching is a profession of love. You can't coach people unless you love them.” - Eddie Robinson

Love is usually not found in most coaching job descriptions. But Bobby Dodd, former football coach at Georgia Tech, once said, “Either love your players or get out of coaching.” When Joe Ehrmann, former NFL player for the Baltimore Colts, was coaching the Gilman High School football team, he would tell the players: “Our job as coaches is to love you. Your job as players is to love each other.”

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

Even though we might speak different languages, you can put a basketball in our hands and we can communicate. It is so amazing how God gives us the platform of sports to reach lost souls. In the picture is a 5th grade team from the Dominican Republic and a 5th grade team from Woodstock. This game was organized by FBC Woodstock, SCORE International and FCA. The DR team is flying home today with 2 of the boys accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!!! They both gave their testimony and Ron Bishop with SCORE international shared about Jesus. It was a great evening of basketball, fellowship and most importantly.... sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Thanks FBC Woodstock, SCORE International and FCA for making this event possible!!

Well, recently our Canton community came together to make a last minute wish trip come true for a very special young man, Collins Dixon. Collins is a 7th grade student at Teasley Middle School here in Canton, Georgia. Collins has been battling a rare and aggressive brain cancer, Glioblastoma grade IV for about 10 months now. Collins has been through surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Collins has shared his story of faith, hope and perseverance with everyone he has come in contact with, and has been such an inspiration to so many. Then some of our local principals asked if we could get together a trip for Collins and his family to go to Tampa to see the Georgia Bulldogs play in the OUTBACK Bowl, well you can only imagine that together Collins prayer warriors rallied and were like “dawgs on a bone” and were determined to make it happen! With the help of Dr. Sue Zinkil and her amazing staff at Teasley Middle School, Debra Murdock the Principal at Cherokee High School, and Jan Adams the Principal at RM Moore Elementary school rallied their troops and began raising financial support to get Collins and his family and his best buddy, Nate to the game. Offers of plane tickets, vans, hotel rooms, and prayers for travel began flooding in. FCA, who has clubs (Huddles) that meet at Teasley and Cherokee HS utilized their contacts at UGA where FCA has a football Team Chaplain to get tickets and a hotel room so Collins could stay where the team would be staying. All this time, Collins was really having a tough time with complications from the tumors, and weakening from the strong chemo that is being used to get control over the cancer so that prayerfully a new clinical could be administered.

Our amazing Sheriff Roger Garrison, who has previously helped Collins and the Dixon’s reached out. He mentioned that he could not get Collins off his mind and felt that perhaps he could help get Collins to the game, safely and securely. Sheriff rallied his troops. Little did Collins know that he would have private transportation in the form of United Medical Response, thanks to Emily & Derrick. Two paramedics, Ben and Carlos made sure that Collins was riding in style all the way to Tampa!! How thankful are we that we live in a community that the Sheriff of our County is touched and involved with his people and is answering a call to make sure that everyone is safe and cared for above and beyond…

Even though the “Dawgs” lost in triple over-time... I ask for prayers for Collins, because his body is in triple over-time and fighting hard to get this cancer backed down. Pray that his disease can be forced “under control” and victory over the cancer can be claimed! Collins’ family, who together with Collins have been going through this battle have maintained such outward expressions of faith and grace in the face of this fight. They have been so humbled and sincerely grateful for the all of the people, some mentioned here, some not, but together they are part of the everyday angels who have been touched enough to go those extra miles to make one young prayer warriors dream of attending a Georgia Bowl game come true. Thank you to all of you who we ask to continue to “Bend your knees for Collins”
